A Father Son One Two In Final Race

Road Race 7 on Wednesday 18th August 2010

On Wednesday night past the Lakeland Cycle Club 2010 Road Race league kindly sponsored by Lakeland bikes came to an end. This was a race everybody wanted to win as it was a mass start with everybody starting at the same time and no handicap advantage with the league table very close.

Nearly 30 riders started the race in a night that was surly going to be full of action.

Some new members were signed up on the night, some as far away as Holland (Martja Hel) The only lady starter to face the 28mile circuit.

Missing from the starting line up was the 2009 club champion Raymond Dunlop as he was involved in a high speed crash in the Ballinrobe 2day. His injuries will soon mend but he’ll miss the reminder of the season. Get well soon Ray.

As the flag went down the First attack went. Paul McCorry, Lloyd Seamen and Fergus McGirr opening a large gap from the peloton. The bunch finally brought this back but not without some hard riding. The pace was severe and saw some riding getting shed out he back as they started the last lap and the fuse was lit.

The last 5 mile the breakaway went away for good and the group contained the favourites in Dane and William Dunlop, Neil Armstrong, Keith Johnston, Raymond Pauley, and Kenny Boylan who opened up a large gap to the bunch.

This gap grew to over 2mins with the bunch unwilling to chase probably realising the win was now beyond them and at the end it was down to the sprint in which Dane Dunlop out sprinting his father William and Kenny Boylan to take the win.
