McCann Cup Report
McCann Cup on Sunday 25th April 2010
The McCann Cup at Seskinore promoted by Omagh Wheelers produced two surprise wins today. The A race saw a large bunch of determined A3's take to the road with only two minutes back to scratch for six laps of the nine mile course. While the A1's chased hard they were never catching the A3 steam train due to their limited numbers.
For a while it looked as if the the A3's would stay away but in the penultimate lap the A2's had closed the gap to 30 seconds much of which was due to hard riding by Jack Wilson (East Antrim Audi) and Nathan Morgan (Newry Wheelers).
More often seen on a motorbike than racing, Lakeland's Mark Kavanagh made a return to racing today. He was one of the few who made serious attempts to break away and in the final sprint was in the top ten. Next weekend he will be back in action but in his familiar role on the motorbike as he helps out with the Tour of Ulster.
With two miles to go Mark Brown of Phoenix CC came around the bunch and headed for the finish. Peter Lilley of Banbridge tried to go with him but on the line Brown was well clear to take the victory. He was followed home some seconds later by Lilley while Paul Mulligaan (Eurocycles) took third ten seconds later. The bunch was led in by Team Madigan's David Neill who took the sprint from Sean McGreevy (Newry Wheelers) and Jack Wilson (East Antrim Audi)
