Dunlop Boys Secure The One-Two
Hill Climb 1 on Sunday 16th May 2010
ON Sunday 16th May the Lakeland Cycle Club Hill Climb series of events began with a short 1.5 mile climb from Blacklion up to Burrenforest. 14 local riders bravely assembled at the Forum, some very surprisingly after intense late night liquid nutrition sessions the previous night!
A light shower on the ride out to the event didn’t dampen the rider’s enthusiasm for the climb, just their posteriors. Nearly all the ‘Big Guns’ were out and it was no surprise to see Dane Dunlop, fresh from a good ‘Tour of Ulster’ and about to head to the ‘Ras’ 8 day
Road Race, winning in an amazing time of 6 minutes 47 seconds! Raymond Dunlop was only 8 seconds behind him in second place, with last year’s ‘King of the Hills’, Kenny Boylan, a further 18 seconds back in third.
Neil Armstrong is really looking at home with the ‘Big Guns’ on the hills, fourth place in 7 minutes 33 seconds, they definitely need to keep an eye on him. Normal service was resumed in the ongoing Armstrong/Wilson duel, with Neil putting Robert back in his place behind him, after Wilson reddening Armstrong’s butt cheeks in the last two time trials.
Ray Kerr, Kieran McGrory and Sean Bradley all had great Hill Climb debuts. Particular thanks to Kenny Dunlop and Mark McGirr for marshalling the event, and also to the local council for providing a very useful traffic cone to hold on to when starting off.
