Armstrong Is A Winner

Road Race 2 on Wednesday 21st April 2010

Neil Armstrong rode to victory in the Lakeland Cycle Club 2nd league road race of the season sponsored by Lakeland Bikes. A total of 27 cyclists took part in the 28 mile race which consisted of 4 laps of Creagh, Tullyreagh, and Ashbrook area of Tempo.

The cyclists were split into 4 groups of ability with the scratch having a 10 min handicapped over the front group. On the last lap groups 1, 2, and 3 came together but the scratch that had a 2 min handicapped over the 3 group, still remained 2 min behind. This was unusual to see but it was all down to the missing members in the scratch namely Kenny Boylan and Dane Dunlop and the determination of the rider in the 3rd group not to be caught.

It was now all down to Lakeland riders in the 3rd group namely Neil Armstrong, William Dunlop, Raymond Kerr, Mark Kavanagh, Sean Fee and Mark McGirr to out wit the 8 Omagh wheeler cyclists for the win. At the finish line it was victory for Neil Armstrong who took the honours 2 bike lengths from William Dunlop in 2nd place.

The Lakeland Cycle Club members would like to wish the Lakeland team all the luck in the Tour of Ulster next weekend. Raymond Dunlop, Dane Dunlop, Noel Wilson, Ondreij Slobodnik and Gavin Mc Donald will be mixing it with strong cross channel teams in this 3 day event which consists of 90 mile stages over very hilly terrain.
