Dane Impresses At Rás Connachta
R?s Connachta on Saturday 13th June 2009
The Ulster riders who were selected as part of the Irish U23 Team for Rás Connachta lived up to the expectations of their selectors. Newry"s Mark McKinley, who has shown consistent improvement this year took the 68 mile first stage just out sprinting team-mate Dane Dunlop from Enniskillen. Both of these came in 24 seconds ahead of the pack. Dunlop went on to claim fourth place in the time trial and third in Stage three giving him second overall on General Classification.
The points gained over the weekend could see Dane Dunlop move from his second category status to the first category grade. This could be bad news for Dunlop as he is listed to compete in the Newry Wheelers Three Day Stage race this coming weekend as the event is only catering second, third, juniors and veteran category riders.
Thomas Martin from Lurgan also put in a consistently fine performace and was placed fifth overall in General Classification. The event was won by Simon Coughlin (Donamon).
Cycling Ulster would like to congratulate the lads on the team on such excellent results.
