Boylan Wins Hill Climb
Hill Climb 3 on Sunday 29th June 2008
Hill Climb three took place on Sunday. The bad weather may have put some off the event with only four Lakeland riders turning out with two Fintona Ironmen joining them. The two Fintona men, Fergus McGirr and Damien Gormley, had been swimming at Castle Archdale that morning before cycling to Enniskillen to meet up at the Forum and ride out to do the three mile hill climb from Dresternan Bridge up Lough Navar's scenic drive.
The swim and cycle didn't slow Fergus much in the hill climb, but he and the other riders were no contest for Kenny Boylan who won the event with over two minutes to spare on Fergus, in second. Peter Martin had recovered well enough from the wedding hangover to finish third in a new personal best time. Alan Magee put in a good performance in front of the home crowds at his local event.
After the event, the two Ironmen cycled back to Castle Archdale to wind down with a 10 mile run. This is their last practice before their trip to Austria to compete in the Ironman event. They are part of a group of a dozen local men (well eleven local and the 'German') who are aiming to do the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and then a full 26.2 mile marathon in one day and within a time limit. Well, good luck to them all in their Madman event on July 13.
