Kenny Time (Trial) Machine

Time Trial 5 on Wednesday 18th June 2008

On Wednesday, June 18, the fifth time trial of the season took place at the Five Points; a 10 mile trial from the Five Points to Gortatole and back. It looked like it was going to be bad weather conditions for the event but thankfully the weather faired and the riders enjoyed fairly good conditions for the trial.

The riders were set off at one minute intervals into a slight headwind on the way out. It was one of the most closely contested time trials this year with just 18 seconds separating the six riders from fourth to ninth places. Kenny Boylan, fresh from his TT win at Lifford, took top spot with 22 minutes and 31 seconds. Dane Dunlop was second with 23:13 and Robbie Bryson third with 23:44, well Robbie was in a hurry to get back home to get packed for yet another foreign trip (work this time).

Neil Armstrong justified his recent, long deliberated (well he is a farmer), purchase of a TT helmet with his fourth place, four seconds ahead of Glen McCleery, who was four seconds ahead of John McManus, who in turn was two seconds ahead of Fintona CC’s Patrick Withers. Roger Monaghan was just another two seconds behind that with Wesley Foster six seconds further behind him. It should be interesting to see how these riders all do in the repeat of this time trial at the end of August!

Thanks to all the marshals, deputies, cowgirls and cowboys who helped to run the event.
