Power Riders Dominate Short TT
Time Trial 4 on Wednesday 28th May 2008
Wednesday, May 28 saw the fourth time trial of the year take place. This short three mile time trial from Gardener’s Cross to Lisbellaw was an ideal practice for the time trial in the Ras Dun na nGall the following weekend in which four Lakeland CC riders were competing.
Eighteen riders took part in the “race of truth”. With the short course there was very little between the competitors’ times and the event marshal chose to start the riders at two minute intervals, to the confusion of some.
However, it is as well not to waste much time trying to fathom the workings in the mind of the enigma that is, Wesley Foster, better men have tried and failed!
The course of the TT suited the more powerful riders, and they don’t come much more powerful than Kenny Boylan, who came in first with a time of 6 minutes 27 seconds. Dane Dunlop was second with 6 minutes 42 seconds with Raymond Dunlop third, three seconds further behind Dane. Peter Martin was the only other rider to break seven minutes.
These top four were all showing good form for the gruelling weekend of racing ahead of them at the Ras Dun na nGall.
Roger Monaghan enjoyed yet another impressive performance, in his first year, putting the wind up some very good experienced riders. Paul McCorry made a great debut with a time of 7 minutes 28 seconds in 11th place and young riders Mathew Monteith and Cormac McLoughlin showed that if they want to keep their feet dry, then they have a great future in cycling. Thanks to the marshall and his posse of deputies who kept law and order on the night.
