Kenny Tops Elite Band

Hill Climb 2 on Sunday 11th May 2008

On Sunday, May 11 a small band of elite riders made their way out the Swanlinbar Road to do the Gortalughanny Hill Climb. This climb is not for the faint hearted, particularly the last part of the climb with a one in six gradient.

Eight riders were in attendance and were set off at one minute intervals as usual. Two of the clubs’ top grimpeurs, Robbie Bryson and Raymond Dunlop, were missing but the competition for top spot was well contested even in their absence with Kenny Boylan winning it by ten seconds from Dane Dunlop.
Kenny’s time of 11 minutes 16 seconds was a 10 second improvement on his time last year on this climb.

In the “Clash of the Martins”, Brian was again victorious on the hills, in third place overall, almost taking a minute out of his father, Peter. Despite having passed Peter near the end, Peter summoned a last burst of energy to sprint past Brian and avoid the humiliation by one second. Alan Magee showed himself to be a constantly improving rider with a very good time in his first year of club competition.
