Robbie Powers Home Up The Hill

Road Race 2 on Wednesday 30th April 2008

On Wednesday, April 30, Road Race two in the Lakeland CC calendar took place. The race started near Tempo just past Tempo Manor at Blackhill and headed out this road about three miles to Tullyreagh cross where it went left, over the bridge, and on a mile to another crossroads where it again went left. Two miles down this road it reached Creagh cross where it again turned left and after another two miles it rejoined the road from Tempo. This lap was repeated three full times and then on the last lap the finish was at the top of the hill a mile after Creagh cross.

The riders were split into three groups. The front group were given a six minute start on the middle group, which in turn had a four minute gap on the scratch group. The timings worked out perfectly with the front group only being caught by the middle group just after Creagh cross and the scratch catching everyone up at the bottom of the hill to the finish line.

The scratch powered past most on the hill with the diminutive figure of Robbie Bryson showing his prowess on the hills by just taking the win from the in form Dane Dunlop. Peter Martin filled the last spot on the rostrum. Thanks to all the marshals and especially to Frankie Flynn on his motor bike, for keeping riders safe, encouraged them and made them aware of the time gaps between the groups.
