Boylan Wins Time Trial League
Time Trial 5 on Wednesday 5th September 2007
The fifth and final time trial of the year took place on Wednesday last. The 10 mile event went from McCaffrey’s Cross to Murley Cross and back.
A lot was at stake as this event would determine the final standings in the time-trial and handicap time-trial leagues. 16 Lakeland riders took part and were set off at minute intervals.
The wind on the night helped on the way out but made the return leg hard work. A resurgent Raymond Dunlop marked his birthday by winning and recording a personal best time of 22 minutes 17 seconds, an average speed of around 27mph. Kenny Boylan was second with 22 minutes 36 seconds and Dane Dunlop, with another personal best, was third with 23 minutes two seconds. It was a night for PBs with Neil Armstrong, Glen McCleery and Kenny Donnell all recording their best ever times.
With the points from this event added to the overall TT and Handicap TT League points, the final league positions were calculated. In the TT League Kenny Boylan finished first with Robbie Bryson second and Peter Martin and Dane Dunlop joint third.
Unfortunately Raymond Dunlop missed two of the five TT events leaving him with only three results, when he needed four, which cost him a podium place. In the handicap TT league it was very close with Neil Armstrong coming first just ahead of Willie Dunlop with Peter Martin third. Neil’s PB time on the night was crucial as if he had been just 14 seconds slower he would have lost out to Willie.
