Ray Dunlop Is Dynamite

On Wednesday past the 10 mile time trial course from the Five Points to Gortatole and back was the last individual time trial of the season and therefore the last chance for riders to assess there improvements over the summer (hence their bragging rights going into the winter).

Over 30 riders competed on a dry calm night, ideal for time trialling. First off were the younger less experienced riders followed by a number of Castlederg based competitors. Lakeland showed strength and depth when they fielded William Dunlop, Sean Fee, Wes Foster, Tom White, Mark Kavanagh, and Roger Monaghan. Big hitters Kenny Donnell, Kenny Boylan and Raymond Dunlop were last off (everyone at 1 minute intervals).

Riders soon began to come in thick and fast, although there were some concerns about spectator safety. New recruits Ray Kerr, Gary Thornton and Lloyd Seaman finished well with encouraging times; indeed all Lakeland riders finished strongly beating most of their Co Tyrone competition.

The dual of the night was fought between sprint specialists Kavanagh and Monaghan with Kavanagh winning by a slender 1 second. Perhaps if Roger wasn't rubbing shoulders with a certain Lance Armstrong at the weekend things could have been different!

Kenny Donnell posted the exact same time as he did in May showing a consistent season to come third. The Boylan Express came in second, a good result as Kenny has been concentrating on building works these last few months.

The performance of the night was undoubtedly Raymond Dunlop who smashed the course record by 30 seconds to win in a time of 21:02 a blistering average of almost 28mph.

Thanks to all the marshals for their efforts and expertise as always.
