Dane Notches First TT Win

On Wednesday last, the second time-trial of the year took place.

TT2, started near Maguiresbridge and went via Cornafanogue to Tempo, turned at the road junction there and returned to finish, suitably enough, at the graveyard gates near Maguiresbridge as a few of the riders died on crossing the line.

20 cyclists appeared for the event including three Omagh Wheelers.

Weather conditions were good but with quite a strong wind, helping the riders on the out leg towards Tempo, but making the return journey extremely hard work.

The riders were started at one minute intervals as usual. Dane Dunlop showed that he is the man to watch this year with his first ever win in a time trial. It was very close, though, with just three seconds separating him from Kenny Boylan!

His time was 23 minutes and 47 seconds, an average speed of just over 25 mph, which is impressive considering the strong wind. Raymond Dunlop claimed the third podium spot with 24 minutes and 50 seconds.

Other notable performances were new club man Keith Johnston in ninth (26:49) and Brian O’Reilly who showed what he could do with a true back wheel! With continued effort Brian should attain a good time at the end of term.

Thanks, as always, to all those who helped to marshal the event and to “Toppers”.
